Penultimate Breaths

2015
Sound piece

Apropos

This sound piece is the result of the accumulation of all piratically downloadable news broadcast programmes from Swiss national radio channels censored extremely to the point where only the inspirations of the anchors are kept. The matter of concern has been taken out with the editing process of ellipsis cut out.
As a result male and female alike are breathing in at unison leaving a gap between each breath; a silence containing possible good news and disasters. The gap shortens as the radio shows are layered on top of each other.and cumulate into a cacophony of one way respiration.
Anxiety has been a recurrent idea coming out of the ongoing contingency, the intension here is to make this anxiety at first quite humorous becoming somehow physical and contagious through the listening of the layered insistant breaths.
This work was realised for an exhibition during the Saas-Fee Institute of Art at the European Graduate School in the summer 2015 and was shown on an iPad.
